ok so my contract expired on the 21st april and i got a new phone with a different provider.

as my contract is now up (but still paying every month obviously) can i phone up and cancel or do i still need to write to them and give them 30 days notice?

been looking on google and the information says you can and you can't and i don't fancy sitting on a phone waiting for an hour to be put through to someone from india telling me i can't do it over the phone

cheers.

I did it over the phone yesterday m8. Still gave 30 days notice. He did give me some shite about it should be given in writing. FFS come on, in an age where online, phone and apps can do almost all tasks who needs to send a letter to convey your wishes lol

cheers alan. if you still have to give 30 days notice i'll just write the letter.

hate talking to these call centre people who try to sell you shit all the time.

and yes, true, why would you want a letter when my account is all online? doesn't make sense in the slightest.

Why will be an extra few days of line rental you bean

The 30 days commences as soon as they are notified/read letter and act on it

ring the 3 digit number (202 or something for o2) and follow the options to go through to cancellations - say you're leaving?

cancellations and retentions are English afaik

nope, should be put it writing as its an official contract and the postal rule applies so once the post office give you a reciept you are effectively cancelling the contract within 30 days from there.

My contract ran out with o2 and they never told me i was due an upgrade at all. They neve even told me i can upgrade a month early or that either.

I phone up wanting to cancel and they said i need to give them 30 days notice. I asked why and some guy said it was due to people upgrading a month early. So i told them i wasnt paying it because i never recieved any letters, calls, emails, texts etc to say i can upgrade.

Few days after they sent me out letters so i emailed telling them i am not paying due to what ive said above and they responded basically saying i dont need to pay it.

i have 2 phones on the direct debit so can't do that

anyway, it's posted now so 30 days from now it'll be over, my mistake for forgetting about it, but i may well send them an email suggesting they need to update their cancellation practices to come in line with the modern world.
