My mate bought this R5 GTT about 7 month ago, and finally got round to starting something with it today, so i gave him a hand.

He is a Painter, just finished his 3 year apprentice course, and ive just finished my 1st year out of 3 year course for Panel Beating.

Im helping him do his car, cause he re-sprayed my Corsa.

Basically he got the car about 7 month ago for 400 quid, with a big daft fibreglass kit on it, and a paintjob that could cut you if you run your hand on it.

So today, we set about attacking it, its having 2 new quarter panels, 2 doors, 2 wings, full sills on both sides, new tailgate, bumpers and bonnet.

First progress pics, i forgot my digicam today, so phone pics will have to do, doing more again tomorow:

Should look nice when its finnaly done and fully re-sprayed, will take a while though.

would it not have been easier/cheaper just to buy another shell, like a late campus one or something? surely replacing the quarters is going to be mroe money and effort than swapping bits over?

Not yet, think its coming out though, hes thinking of sticking a 1.7 Turbo in it out of a Volvo 480, straight in, same engine mounts etc.

can i give u a tip mate??

get the wheels back on it and back onto the floor asap. i NEVER lift a car even when cutting the old quarter off to cut the sill joint as the chassis twists. alot lift it to cut the 1/4 off etc and set it back down to gap/cut and weld etc. get her back down on her feet asap and NEVER weld on axle stands...

looks good

dont see what wrong with cutting qaurter off with it on stands as it is because there onli under the rear beam so theoreticall its onli got the same stress on the shell as it would if it was on wheels

although i woulda done one qaurter at a time

Fuck me, didnt know this was brought back from the dead!

Tbh, it hasnt changed a great deal haha. Quarters are on, sills are on, all filled etc, got high build primed other week, its nearly flatted down. Just need dash, front window and engine out then will be ready for paint. Think hes thinking of keeping it red, but not sure, ill get some more pics.

He did put it on eBay as unfinished, but it didnt sell, so now hes determined to finish it.
