apparently on holiday some clubs will be playing a genre of music called "house". i am not familiar with this style of music and so some good "house" tracks that i could download may get me into the swing of things.
Thanks

There is no defined music genre which is just called "house". It is split into many types......to name a few:
Trance
Progressive
Hard
Soft
Chillout
etc.....
Garage music is NOT house music. House and garage are totally different beats etc. It is however a variation of house style beats, originating in the 80's in the US.
ie: Is house a cross between trance and garage? NO, totally different. trance is trance, garage is garage, but some would say, they are both, types of house music.
To be honest, it depends how musically orientated you are, and how well u can tell the difference. Ie: to me, all metal crap sounds the same, so i just say its rock/metal, yet to fans, this is often seen as an arrogant way of looking at it.
In the same way, people who listen to Drum n Bass, and say "i'm not into that house/trance stuff" are totally wrong.
To sum it up mate, if ur not a house/dance fan, then on ur hol, be prepared for the likes of Paul van dyk, DJ Sammy, Room 5......thats kinda stuff.

Yer garage is completely different to house, but US Garage is Funky House lol
u can then further refine these generes of music:
Soft Trance (Armin van Burren)
Hard Trance (Tidy Trax is moving this way)
Prog - Tec House (eric morrilo and carl cox)
Then u Funky House which is good for a warm up before a club (Trophy Twins)
lol as u can see if i love trance, hard house, funky house ect but i hate commercial dance music, the likes of dave pearce, judge jules, alex p and brandon block disgust me
me likes tho: Matt Hardwick, Tiesto, PVD, Guy Ornadel, Tidy Boys could name loads but ill stop here
House is used as a generic term, like the term Kung Fu, their are many different styles
