Very specific requirement for a works laptop.

Needs to have XP Pro, be 32 bit and have a dedicated serial port (I think you can get adapters but our engineers are as thick as mince and keep breaking them). Decent memory and a decent hard drive as they'll be running commissioning tools and store thousands of site maps.

No requirement for anti-virus, office, Dell/Acer/HP programmes just a plain laptop and an OS.

Where would be the best place to look for something as specific as this with a manufacturer warranty etc...

I've got an E5500 sitting infront of me here, it's massive but has a serial port, they should still be available I think, I'll check.

Serial port adapters don't always work with the sort of equipment you'll be talking about.

http://www.itcsales.co.uk/acatalog/DELL_Latitude_E5500.html

Out of stock fail

Don't worry what OS it comes with, got a legit Dell XP CD here if you get a Dell.

That's about the only newish laptop I can think of that has serial.

Found a new one for future reference, E5510, just the newer model, got one sitting here and definitely has a serial port.
