where do people look when getting a new car?

im looking on autotrader, pistonheads and ebay at the moment

I just use local dealers, Turned out to get some decent deals whenever I have been there.

same as you mark, only ever use those 3 as every decent dealer sells on those nowadays.

far easier searching for cars online than dragging yourself round dealer forecourts all day, listening to their waffle.

sometimes i keep an eye on the ones on ebay with a reserve, if they dont meet the reserve then offer them something cheaper but fair after the auctions ended. go and view... take it from there

Depends what your after. Every car I have bought, I wanted a specific spec, so basically rules out using local dealers.

Forums for that particular model are always a good bet, especially if they are a regular member so you can check their past posts and get a good idea if you are buying a car off someone like mad_mike or someone like bigron/dale etc.

I usually decide on what make/model I want then take a look on the owners clubs if they have one.

Over the years,ive noticed that 98% of cars for sale on owners forums are over-priced.

Majority of them will have been looked after better and people always expect to be knocked down, so price high.
