Anybody clued up about karting?

Just curious tbh.
Is it a cheap form of motorsport?
If you were to buy a kart, where would you go to use it?
Can you just turn up at a venue at just drive it around ie. hire the track

I can't imagine it being very much to maintain?

I raced 100cc class one ICA for years and it wasn't cheap. But bloody good fun doing 90 mph with your arse half inch off the floor
You can't do it for fun these days with the quick karts. Most tracks in the uk require a licence, you can only do arrive and drive on pro-karts. And if you have ever driven a class one kart then you'll realise pro-karts are shit.

At daytona they do a kart championship which is something like 10 or 11 races (one a month) over the year. It's something like £800 but you get the kart, equipment etc.

That's obviously not what you are looking at doing but it's a cheaper way of getting a year of karting and it's competitive

A brand new rotax senior will be yes, but that's like saying the only car you can ever get is an Audi r8 etc

When I was looking at them for a half decent 2nd hand one you were looking at about a grand, but it's the rebuilds and tyres that were the money. Alot of places you can pay to just turn up and drive so that wasn't that expensive, but I went off the idea in the end.

if you desperate to own one, on outright buying and easy to run etc prokart is the way, next step IMO keeping things simple would be thunderkart

after that your looking at rotax, TKM or looking to the past with highli strung 100cc direct drive or TKM 2S, which are faster, but more fragile/more hassle

I know someone who races Easy Kart: http://www.easykart.co.uk/

I think the idea is it's a low cost form of kart racing, but it still seems to be quite pricey due to companies having a monopoly of parts supply. But at least everyone has identical spec karts.

I only wanted to play with it.
I have no intentions of racing and competing.

Almost like a track car but smaller scale.

Purely for fun. It sounds more expensive than a cheap ass track car now
