Not quite a car but I'm painting a bike frame, its currently unpainted with a chromoloy coating, few chips through the coating to the bare metal.

It only needs to be a rattle can finish but could do with being a bit durable, What's the best primer to use after sanding back the chips and keying the rest of the frame.

and how many coats of lacquer would be recommendable?

or would it be best to powder coat it come to think about it?

3/4 maybe?

Not an answer to your question but it would be nice to have a couple of coats of a lighter colour than your top coat.

An old huffy frame of mine (dark blue) had a lighter blue coat underneath and looks quite smart when it does get chipped

Or you could anodise it, cheaper and looks cool

ive got one ive attempted to paint, being round its a nightmare for running so im going to get it powder coated
