So our Leon Cupra is falling apart. Key fob broken, glove box broken, needs 2 rear tyres, massive key marks courtesy of some fucking chav, Secondary air pump packed up, climate control display broken. So been thinking about packing it in.

Come up with 3 options :

Subaru Impreza, 05plate, 60k miles, Not a single mark inside or out, 6.5K
Skoda Octavia 56 plate, 2.0T Vrs, 72k miles, clean but 7.5k
Mercedes C200K Avantgarde, 54 plate 40k miles, Super clean 6.5k.

All are cars i like the look of, all have plus points, all have negative points. With the cupra the way itis, prob only get 1400 or so for it. So id need to add 5k minimum to that. This leaves option 4:

Fix all above problems, respray, few quid on the engine. All the above, barring the respray, are not expensive to fix, just a pain in the arse.

Any other options must be quick, petrol or very luxurious and not too high miled. Wish we had kept the old Vrs now

Thoughts?

id go pre 2006 for the 2.0l both for price and tax band tbh. We had the diesel Vrs octavia which was mapped and was very good, but want petrol. Subaru is favourite atm but the mercedes is just pure luxury. Octavia is stretching the budget a bit

Merc I would avoid as it's so different to the other cars in terms of drive. More relaxed/bargey than hot hatch.

Go for the imprezza

Key fob broken £20?
glove box broken £30?
needs 2 rear tyres £100?
massive key marks £200?
Secondary air pump £50?
climate control display £30?

Will it be worth £500 more if you sort it?

I wouldn't even do the bodywork tbh. Other stuff shouldn't be expensive if you get a few snipes on the go and do the work yourself.

You can just remove the secondary air pump, there are guides on the interweb on how to do it.

Or you can buy some bolts and fix your current one.

Or you can fit a new one.

Key fob is cheap to change.

Glove box won't be difficult to fix. You could probably get a new part from a scrap yard off another Leon or an A3.

Key fob is approx 60 quid, SAI can be done very cheap but i just dont have the knowledge todo it myself so would be expensive fix. Glove box is 30 quid to do, climate control display has leaked and half black display. Tax is due end of month too so another 260 quid, Tyres are 114 plus fitting. Key mark is deep scratch on both passenger doors, plus about 12 car park dings on various different places. Previous owner had a roof rack on, held on by brillo pads by looks of it, which were filled in with nail varnish. Tbh, the bodywork is shocking on it now and its my biggest problem with the car.

Welsh Dan : 03 plate LeonCupra, black, Very solid engine apart from SAI fault, full service history, Forge Turbo intake pipe, Forge recirc valve, Jetex induction kit, Milltek cat back, AmD remap, 211.8bhp, shit bodywork

Oh and Ian, as for work myself, im utterly useless at working on cars, to the point ofi got someone to fit the induction kit

Yeah seen them on ebay, was just adding extra on for half hour labour to code it. Gonna visit a few bodyshops tomorrow, see what the cost is to repair the bodywork.

If you can swap over the blade and transponder then it's just a case of pairing it with another key.

well there are a few options. Merc is now not an option, the vrs we were looking at has sold and rest are much higher priced. Still a few subarus to look at but as you said, if i can get on ebay and get a good enough quote for the bodywork, it may just be worth keeping the cupra. Its just nagging me that what we end up spending to put it right is more than it would be worth in mint condition.

havent got many pics of it, ill have to get some done. Got a quote to get the key marks done and couple of other bits, 350 quid and then 1200 for a full respray. Key fob and glove box getting done by Seat on tuesday for 100 quid. Im now looking for 2 replacement black passenger doors instead, then ill get Rich H round to detail/machine polish the rest to see what scratches he can clear. Now i need a decent wheel/tyre package rather than pay out for new tyres. Basically, after lots of thoughts and reading some of the above, it makes more sense to keep it and put our own stamp on it.

Im gonna offer someone on Cupra.net beer tokens to have a go at fixing, seat want 400 quid for a replacement. Think ive sourced a good condition climate display now too, so all in all, problems could be sorted. So, might as well spend what i was gonna spend on the wheels, downpipe, FMIC, stage 2 and maybe a new turbo. At least then ill know the majority of the car has been done and is in good condition rather than an unknown subaru or skoda. Thanks for the links/advice.
