Just go round the local travel agents/post office and ask how much you would get for 'x' amount and compare them until you get the most.

Cheque centres are usually best. Travellers cheques are accepted everywhere

Friends of mine have just returned from Vegas and they reckon they were getting a better rate straight out of the cash machines in the hotel than anywhere over here

That's exactly what I wanted to hear - do you know who they bank with?
Barclays are doing 2.99% processing fee but no mention of the basic rate.

I travel with work a alot, and ALWAYS just draw cash from ATMs wherever I go.
I got stung a while back when I changed some money to Euros prior to leaving here, got a shit rate of pretty much £1:1E whereas the cash machines turned out to be about £0.7something:1E

I always look online at places and then go to the money shop with the highest quote and they match it

Best thing about Travelex is that you can book and pay online and pick it up at the airport

same here but in egypt (slightly different area)
got charged £1.50 per withdrawal from my bank though, so make sure you don't keep taking money out every 5 minutes.

Should have given this some more though, got €430 for £400 at the post office on saturday which is probably quite sh*t
I'm planning to take the rest out (in Spain) using my VISA debit card in large chunks as I think you get charged for every transaction abroad?
