General information -

Shockingly, I have decided to draw my time with the Corsa to a close, and move onwards to bigger things.

It is a 1996 Corsa Sport, originally fitted with a 1.4 16v Engine, finished in Glacier White

In February/March 2011, I had the engine converted to a 1.8 16v from a 2000 Vauxhall Vectra (Engine type X18XE1) which was a fairly straightforward conversion, retaining the original close ratio gearbox, driveshafts etc, with the main work being wiring and the exhaust system. There is a Carbon Fibre intake system fitted, which is connected to some ductwork to make it a sealed ram system. An Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator is installed to compensate for the difference in the fuelling system between the Vectra and the Corsa. The EGR System has been blanked to prevent the system from causing any problems if it begins to clog/fail (seemingly common on a lot of the 16v engines). All Engine & Gearbox mountings were renewed around the time of the engine conversion (it uses the same mounts as a 1.4/1.6 16v Engine) and prior to fitting them, they were DIY strengthened with the addition of extra rubber pieces within the mounts and rubber sealant to fill any remaining gaps and coat the outside of the assemblies.

The car has undergone other work, mainly in an effort to make it suitable for track use;

The interior was stripped back to the metal surfaces with the removal of all of the trim (apart from the Dashboard) and all sound deadening materials – the interior was given a coat of paint when freshly stripped, though a few scratches have appeared over time since. There are a pair of black Cobra Monaco S seats fitted, which were limited edition models from the stockist I used (sixonetwo) which saw them gain Suede-tec patching and extra padding. There are also a pair of black Securon 3-point Harnesses fitted with all original seatbelt systems removed. The front doorcards were replaced with Carbon Fibre items from Performance Trim (unfortunately they have now ceased trading, before I could get the rear trim to match the front). The battery is also found inside the car now, after being relocated from the engine bay – this is contained within a housing with the cabling run through the cabin and clipped in place.

The exterior has had some work done – a facelift (post-97) front bumper has been fitted, with the Irmscher lower splitter, which has also got some ventilation holes behind the Registration plate for when it is being used on track. A set of Morette headlights have been fitted, with the inner lamps removed to fit air inlet ducts (the drivers side is attached the to the air inlet system to make it a sealed, ram intake – the passenger side has ducting fitted, but does not have much of a purpose other than to make the headlight assemblies look balanced – I was considering using this with an Oil Cooler setup) – the lights have a 6000k Bi-Xenon HID Kit fitted. The front indicators are a set of LEDs mounted through the front bumper, they aren't brilliantly bright, and unsure if they will get through the MOT as yet purely to the light output - a pair of alternative Indicator setups will be included in the sale. The rear lights are custom part-tinted to give a better OE look without upsetting light output. A Carbon Fibre bonnet is fitted, this is a damage repaired panel, with work carried out by a local Carbon specialist – the bonnet is secured on the original hinges and with Bonnet Pins (the original catch is removed). The Sunroof assembly was removed fully, and in its place is a sheet of Carbon Fibre fitted, sealed & riveted (this has never leaked). The standard glass windows have all been removed, and replaced with Motorsport spec Polycarbonate – this includes Sliders on the front windows, and pop out vents on the rears. As the car was bought with the original welded towing eye chopped, a functional towing strap has been fitted through the chassis rail with an M12 Stainless bolt with anti-vibration washers and all-metal locking nut – the car has been pulled as a test by this without any concern, this was installed as a way of getting the car onto a truck on a track incident situation more than for continued towing etc.

The chassis has seen some upgrades to assist with the handling of the car – there are a set of White Vectra Sri 16x6” Alloy Wheels, these are fitted with 205/45/16 Yokohama Advan AD08 Tyres which I found to be very good on the track after a little warming. There is a very rare big brake kit fitted, which is the only known setup like this to be seen on a Corsa in the UK – it is a WP Pro 292mm kit, with Drilled/Grooved discs and the original Calipers retained (which are the same as those fitted to the 1.6 GSi & Sport models, which allow for a good variety of choice for Pads) – they have been one of the best investments on the car, and have never caused any problems and perform very well on road and track and are showing little wear so should see plenty more life – the brakes are complemented by a full set of Goodridge Braided lines fitted, and the rear drums are still fitted, but again, perform well combined with the front setup. A mixed Spax suspension setup is fitted, with adjustable front & rear shocks, -40mm front springs and -60mm rear springs. An uprated rear Anti-Roll bar is fitted – a 22mm Cavalier Mk3 bar, which made a massive improvement to the handling. I have also made and fitted a custom rear Strut Brace, which is bolted to the turrets and not the strut tops. A Weichers Sport rear cage is fitted, but this is not ideal for more serious track use, an OMP item was intended to be fitted, but I decided to sell prior to doing this, hence it not being done.

The car has an EXTENSIVE project thread on VxON started in Jan 2009 - please ask for a link if desired (may need a user account) - however, it is very long, currently the most viewed/replied to project thread on the VxON Gallery forum, so if you intend to read it from start to finish, set yourself a bit of time!

At this moment in time, the Corsa has the following;

MOT until 26/10/11
Tax until 30/09/11

If it is still here by the start of October, I will aim to renew the MOT and also put 6 months Tax on.

The Car is still registered as a 1.4 16v - mainly due to working commitments, I have not got around to changing the engine capacity - I have the logbook from the donor, but due to the time it take to process (up to 6wks and that includes SORNing it due to the tax class change) I shall leave it up to the buyer - apologies for this, I did want to get it done but as mentioned, been kept rather busy and distracted

I will be removing the 'GRITT' decals from the wings upon confirmation of the sale

The car will come with a spare Cable Clutch F17CR Gearbox - there haven't been any issues with the existing F13CR 'Box, but it was bought as a precaution and the buyer is welcome to take it with them as it will be no use to me on my next choice of car

The car is not perfect. It is a 15 year old Vauxhall for a start and is also not a trailer queen and does get some grief when it is used, so as you can imagine, there are blemishes;

- The paintwork has the odd scratch, nothing too major, but not enough for me to have been too concerned about
- I recently found the passenger rear arch to be corroded underneath the arch trim - I have not had any quotes to see how much it will be to rectify as yet - I was going to see how it fares in the MOT first.
- There have been advisories on some corrosion in the past 2 MOTs for the rear spring mounts, again, these will need patching up, but I have not had it done as they haven't got much worse over time due to the car not seeing much use
- The exhaust system has a blow, that seems a chronic issue as I can't seem to permanently recify it (I think it is poor alignment between a mix of aftermarket parts) - I was going to go for a custom system, but with it going up for sale it is an expense I have not bothered with

Thats all I can think of off of the top of my head though - inspection/viewing is very welcome, as are questions about any specific thing

The sale is quite reluctant if I am honest, I want to get something a bit more comfortable and practical to use for general use, but I do have an attachment to this car so want it to go to a good home - I would ideally like it to go to someone within the clubs as I know I am likely to see it again that way
