Just looking for a bit of help with this.
I have a desktop PC, that will not turn on, when i press the power button it tries to turn on but nothing happens, can here the power supply fan start but then stop, i've tried it with a different power supply and still the same problem, could these be a fucked motherboard and how do i go about testing the motherboard?
Could it be anything else?

Sorry if you know how strick, but just in case...
Turn it off, Take out the battery on the motherboard, unplug the power supply. Press the power button, should spin the fan once, plug it back it, try powering on then. If it works then turn it off again and put the battery back in the motherboard
(Been about 10 years since i've done it, so could be utterly wrong! But i'm sure that used to work)

Check the RAM, PCI cards etc. are all seated properly.
Check IDE/SATA/power cables to and from the motherboard are also connected properly.

I wouldn't surprised if a capacitor had gone. Its worth following this guide and seeing if there is any capacitors blown

This guide saved me hundreds of pounds when a capacitor went in my TV, it was £300 for a replacement part and under a fiver for some capacitors. As long as your handy with a soldering iron then you should have no problem
