Would an insurance company pay out/write off a car for an engine damaged beyond repair?

Circumstances would be if it was stolen or crashed. So I doubt it. Or burnt obviously. It's not a warranty

The engine over revving has actually caused a slight crash but that on its own would t be enough to write it off.

Well if it caused a crash then I would say its covered. That would just be the reason. It will affect ncb tough as it would be deemed your fault with no third party to claim from.

Don't see why not, I worked with someone who claimed for a new gearbox on his insurance as he couldn't afford a new one when he shamed it on a speedbump

The engine revs caused a crash? Go on?
Gearbox one as described above is a normal road accident you just damaged undercarriage not panels. That's fairly common.

Turbo burning oil and causing engine to redline, then driver possibly pulling the key out and the steering lock going on caused the crash
Was just wondering. Was only glancing mirrors, in this situation it would have been better if it was a proper crash.

it depends on the policy terms. it would be better to ring the insurer in question

Some will. We have just written off a mk4 astra as the engine is knocking its tits off.

Depends if the policy protects against people being a dickhead.

It wasn't quite being a dickhead but yes, driver error.
