In two minds here.
Was thinking of getting a Seat Ibiza Cupra TDI for going to work and back, 100 miles a day so a fair mileage. Currently driving a fucked old octavia there and back. Seeing as im in the car at least 10 hours a week, would make sense to have something nice?
Then there's the part of me that says spend less on something a bit less shit than what I have, then get a proper fast weekend car. Seen a lovely MK3 C20LET Astra locally that would be a good candidate.
Opinions?

Only needs to be as nice as a motorway journey dictates, and that probably means old soft seats are better.
Define fucked, as in unreliable? If its getting you there and back I wouldn't worry too much unless the Ibiza also gives you a fuel saving.

What will you use the weekend car for exactly?

Well the MOT is due on the octavia soon, its been brilliant reliability wise, mpg etc, but the last 28k ive put on it have taken its toll, will need £££ for the MOT.
Weekend car will be just general fun, and not getting ripped into for driving around in a rusty green skoda with 216k on the clock

If you are wanting something to go for a drive in at a weekend would you not be better looking at something like an Elise or a kit car? Astras never been renowned for being a drivers car

Its keeping something like a kit car that would be the issue, wouldn't want to leave the likes of that on the roadside. Anything fast will do me really

i know they always get mentioned, but if you want a car that cheap to run and maintain. clio 172 fits the bill.

Buy a nice one. I pay more to have a nice new car as I work from it. Worthy investment IMO.

I wouldnt borrow money for one though (in his case). It will loose shit loads in value. Dont want to end up in negative equity (like me).

they are not cheap to run the main costs of running a car is tax insurance and petrol a 172 isn't cheap its the most expensive in its model range!

Why not just go ahead with the cupra tdi, surely it ticks both boxes? Not the most fun car but can be fast and also a good commuter?
