hey.
was just looking at this product:
http://www.onboarddiagnostics.co.uk/dec/index.htm
bascially i think its a product that links up to the output from your cars ECU on the diagnostics connector and up to your computer by the RS232 (serial port i think) and you can read fault codes and do various other things (i.e. live RPM, temperatures, etc, etc), depending on the car model.
Just wondered if there was some free software like this that i can use for my Corsa (C20XE conversion) and if anyone has tried anything like this.
The site says that for some cars, you can control the aspects of the car directly from the computer (i.e. electric windows, fuel pump, ignition timing, etc) was thinking it would be good to mount a laptop in your car with a wireless network card in it then use another computer to communicate with the laptop and adjust your cars settings on the fly forumla 1 style would be a very origional mod.

Would be much easier and more advantagous to buy a after market ECU system and use that. Then you have all the benefits of engine mapping as well as the toys.

A completely universal ECU that you can adjust EVERY setting on, the fueling, igniton, rev limit, compensations etc, like a unichip, but 10 times better.
You plug a laptop into them to adjust the settings to your car, there is a screen in the software that shows air temp, revs, throttle position, coolent temp, air fuel ratio etc.
Cost probably about £800 for the ecu and loom for your car. Unless you can find one secondhand.

can just change the management.
A full mapping session costs about £250.

if you think about it the actual part to connect your laptop to the ecu shouldn't be too complicated, its the laptop software that needs to be specialist, and surely someone must have a friend somewhere that can pass this software on?
