But the wheels on an FRP look very close to the standard arches too. They look as wide as the arches.

theres not a great deal of flare ont he rear arches, the fronts are wider, the fronts may be a tad wider on an frp then mine though, not much in it

Was looking at various pics on google.
How much wider are the arches on an FPR over a standard Puma?? On google images, the FRP looks ALOT wider.
Even the fronts alone are nearly poking out the arches.
Im just baffled how you can claim to have near enough same track as an FRP, when the arches alone look about 4"+ wider and the wheels aren't far off poking out.

Might be a daft question here, but don't you include the width of the wheels in the over-all track anyway??

If you look at an frp lower arm the nodded bit that's welded on is the difference its about 4cm so frp front is about 10mm wider the rear is the same as I have the same equipment lol, ride height is also a factor less camber on frp tucking the tops of the wheels in

No, centre line of the wheels.
Wheel width would contribute to the look though.

Wouldn't wheel width contribute to the over-all handling aswell though??

sometimes make it worse, its all based on scrub radius angles which is calculated using the center of wheel line

But in the FRP's case it seems to work with the set-up. Part of the reason they are known for there awesome handling.

its an identical lump apart from cams, inlet and exhaust
its also only about 25bhp more, which in real terms is not much
i had a play with one when mine was full fat, nothing in it really up to about 80 where it started to edge away, id argue now mine is stripped is easily as quick
also with the short ratio box the power is accessible all over the place

but that would be completley standard with full (stunning) recaro interior and yours stripped and noisy to be just as quick.
im not having a dig or anything steve, im just being nosey as to why didnt you buy a frp.
and as above, i really like your car too!

He could do the FRP engine mods and it would be the same on power.
Either car would be heavier with the full interior in. Would also be a shame to track and FRP properly as that too would involve stripping and alterations.
I considered one instead of mine but they are so much more expensive, Steve will have been in a similar situation.
I paid £250 for a standard 1.7 and the cheapest FRP at the time was £4500. Cheapest now is just on £4k for an untidy one.
Steves 1.7 was already tidy when he got it, not sure how much he paid but I would guess still below even the cheapest FRP which would have needed bodywork to get the standard of his now.
I know it's now a track car and therefore bodywork is less important but it still makes a difference to working on the car if everything is rotten and seized.
Probably could have got one for the same money as he has in that car, but it wouldn't be at that spec, and his as it stands will be quicker than an FRP of equivalent value.
The only other factor is resale which again for track use you would want to protect. At least if he bins it he should be able to salvage most parts on to another car. Bin an FRP and you've lost a chunk of money just because of what it was, and you won't get that back if you ring the arches on to another shell.
