I am trying to copy a DVD which I originally created, so there is no write protection on it or anything like that.

I'm using Nero 7.5.

The DVD I am copying from is a DVD+R which would have been finalised when it was first written. I have 'borrowed' some DVD's from work, but it is saying that it cannot write to the DVD - now the DVD's are 100% blank and the only issue I can see (plus what Nero is saying) is that they are DVD-R's, as opposed to +.

Should this really be causing such a problem? Is there anything I can do to enable copying to a DVD-R. I'm not copying on the fly, so it's using an image from the HDD.

Does your computer accept DVD-R's? Usually says on the Disc drawer?

Three logos.

Compact Disc ReWritable UltraSpeed.

DVD R / RW.

RW DVD+ReWritable.

It's a Sony DVD RW DW-D22A.

Seems like it should work:

Yeah it says on their website it accepts DVD-R how many discs have you tried so far? Could be just a crap disk? When I buy DVD's to write I find that I have a couple of crap ones.

I'm having a similar problem Deano and its my burner on its way out I think.
Had it 7 years, must've burnt thousands of discs in that time, they're cheap enuff to replace now.

I'll buy some +R's first to try it. I do need some anyway.

Cheers for the helps.

Some drives are picky about the media they write to - for example the burner on my laptop isn't happy with TDK DVDs but it'll happily burn to Verbatim or even cheap no-brand discs.

What's the errors message Nero gives you? Have you tried another burning app like CDBurnerXP (it's free) just to make sure it isn't Nero giving you the headaches?
As Sam said, chances are it is the media but usually firmware updates have sorted this when I've had issues in the past (my NEC drive will use anything tbf).

DVD+R's are working a treat. Source DVD was +R. Didn't think it'd make a difference though if burning from a temp image on the HDD.

Perhaps you need to slow down the burn rate - probably talking shit here, but if for whatever reason your hard drive can't keep up with the DVD drive, that might be the reason why.
