We have a spare room so before the Mrs turns it into a nursery I intend to turn it into a games room.
I'm looking at budget projector and the Optoma HD600X looks like a good shout. I've been looking on here to get an idea of distances and size:
http://www.projectorcentral.com/Optoma-HD600X-LV-projection-calculator-pro.htm
If I've got this right the optimum 'Throw Distance' is around 18ft which results in the screen size being around 150"? Seems a bit big?
On ebay the 150" screens are about £160, is it worth it over just projecting onto my magnolia wall? Or painting it with projector paint?
Anyone had any experience of this projector?

Matt white paint. Job done. Maybe paint a black border round it, looks better imo.
We projected a 18ft image onto a home made screen made of white cloth and a wooden frame for the world cup and it worked a treat.

I think that link was wrong, this is for the HD600X
http://www.projectorcentral.com/Optoma-HD600X-projection-calculator-pro.htm
Its saying 14 foot if the closest you'd want to go with the projector tothe screen and that produces a 120" image...
This screen looks massive and its 108"

Yes I think painting the walls looking like a good option...

Only problem with a projector is that the room needs to be very dim to get the full effect.
For what your looking at, i wouldnt spend a fortune. Also, find out how expensive the lamps are for them. Weve bought new projectors as they were only a bit more expensive than a replacement lamp!!

The projector itself is about £370 new and the lamps are ~£100.
The just some paint for the wall.

I've thougt about a projector but because it would be in the back room I'd need an amp and speakers which at least doubles the price. Probably will one day right enough.

Depends if you buy a silent one or not. I've got one for sale in classifieds with a short throw lens too.

This is one things thats concerning me, I was hoping to have it on a small table in the centre of the room with a chair either side but if its really noisey ill have to build a little box and hang it from the ceiling.
