Just had a guy out to fix my boiler, unfortunately he has written it off and disconnected it.
It's a piece of crap Powermax all-in-one job. I'm wanting to replace it with a combi boiler.
I know absolutely nothing about them, it's for a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom flat.
One thing I do know is that the current flue runs through the ceiling so to replace that they need to pull the ceiling down.
I know the costs vary on an individual basis but can anyone give me a rough ballpark figure of what I should expect to pay?

Just to add, I have no idea if a combi is the right thing for me. It's just what most people have suggested.

Actually after a quick bit of research, I'm not sure a combi is the best solution. I have the space for a hot water tank so that's not an issue.

2 bathrooms as in 2 rooms with baths in or do you have a bathroom and a shower room?
Combi will be the cheapest option. do you have a hot water tank at the moment?

A bathroom and a shower room. Currently I have the power max boiler which has a kind of hot water cylinder built into it.
Ive read that combis are unreliable though. I don't mind paying a bit more, it seems a "system" boiler could be a good option?

He said it was unsafe as it was leaking a lot.

If you buy an expensive combi they arent unreliable, an expensive combi is £800+ though
you will pay £500+ for a decent system boiler but then you will have to pay for new cylinder and storage tank as well as the extra pipework and labour which will be considerably more
what type of shower do you have in your shower room? if its an electric one then you should go for a Combi all the way

How do I know if it's electric? I don't think it is, because it's all plumbed behind the wall so all I can see is the controls. Plus there is no mains cut-off switch for it anywhere.

right then you may have a mixer shower. In my opinion a 30 - 34kw combi would be ok. if you have manages with the powermax then you should be ok

Thanks Matt - I have an insurance policy through Baxi Group. I will see what they suggest. I'm waiting to hear how much they will contribute towards the replacement, if it isn't much I'll just find someone independent.

Turns out Baxi will pay for the cost of the boiler, I just need to pay for the installation
