im trying to release the tension on the cambelt, but the bolt is chewed. when i say bolt i mean the female torx shape. is there any other way i can still release the tension to get the belt off?

try knocking a slightly larger torx bit or allen key into the hole. make sure its its in as far as it can go and flush before you turn.
if youve got enough room, get a stud/damaged bolt extractor on it

tried that. is it supposed to be a torx? the haynes manual makes it look like its supposed to be a normal nut shape?

Newer ones are a torx.
Either try and get something slightly bigger in there, or get a sharp chisel and hammer it into the round edge of the bolt head and try and get it loosened or get a punch and hammer it into the Allen key hole and tap it round.
Any of them works for me usually.
