Just took the belt off and the two cam pulleys have moved completely. How do I fix this and get it all to line up again correctly?

just use a spanner to move them back in position. put belt on bottom pulley first. then round roller, then pulley closest to rad, then next pulley then to tensioner

should be slots on the gearbox end of the cams, they are slightly off center so each one has a large D and a small D shape. iirc, the small d should be at the bottom and you should be able to fit a locking tool ( i used an old reg plate) in the slots and it should rest flush against the head.

How would I line up the cmashafts with the crankshaft without using a belt, as I had to slip the belt off as the nut on the tensioner is rounded to fuck

There should be markings on the cambelt side that all match up. There is a diagram showing where the marking line up, search it on google images or something.

ideally, you want a locking pin that goes in through the front of the block and rests against a cut out in the crankshaft. find out the tdc position using a haynes manual and get it as close as possible. as said, if there are markings on the belt, once you have the cams locked, line the marks up with the ones on the cams, then take the side of the belt that goes straight down to the crank and fit it round the pulley, making sure the mark at the belt lines up with the mark on the pulley. once thats on, keep tension pressed on the belt over the cams and have someone hold it on the crank pulley so it doesnt slip, then run it round the water pump and tensioner, take up the slack and turn it over by hand

if this is an x14xe etc

The notches on the cams line up at 3 and 9 o clock positions. You'll need a spanner on the inlet cam as this will prob move off on it's on.

there is a mark on the bottom pulley to line the bottom end up. confirm it's at tdc by taking plug no.1 out and checking the piston is at the top of the bore, use a long piece of dowel or screwdriver etc.
