My laptop died today, so boss bought me a new one, only problem being I have alot of stuff on the old HDD,

iI have an old usb caddy here, and I've plugged it in

but it doesnt seem to do much,

it just flashes every now and again and the new laptop makes the "new device plugged in sound then another noise when it doesnt like it, how do I access the files?>

Is the caddy powered?

Why did your old laptop 'die'?

Not powered, its just uses an adaptor which plugs onto the top of the HDD itself.

I've no idea, it won't turn on for some reason, It shows the power LED on the side to say the PSU Is giving it power

Well a 2.5" drive shouldn't need power, might do if it's a large capacity drive as USB power might not be enough for it.

So it doesn't show up in Windows Explorer or on the system tray icon where the clock etc. is under the 'safely remove devices' icon?
