It's probably been asked a million times but i can not find much info on search..

Basically the brakes on my 16xe are really poor.

Been thinking about upgrading to 2.0 brakes off a cavalier or whatever... is it just a straight swap, or do you have to start changing the driveshafts etc? Do you just buy the set up and fit it?

I've not got much knowledge on brake upgrades.
Cheers lads.

pads, discs, calipers and pad carriers are all you need, can link the existing flexis to the 2.0 brakes as well

The 1.6 discs are only a few mm thiner than the 2.0l items. So it might be better just to give yours a good service. i,e new fluid, braided hoses, better pads, and discs. Also clean up, and grease the sliders.

May only be a few mm thicker on the disks, but the pads are like 1.5 times bigger and a bigger caliper, imo 2litre brakes are much better than sport brakes.

I'd say the 1.6 brakes should be up to the job, on a standard car. So I would be looking at why they're so shit. When was the fluid last changed, what pads and discs? I bet the hoses are over ten years old.

Like I said check out what you've already got.

Got apec pads and disks, just replaced them but still just as crap. I'll change the fluid, and buy some decent quality vented disks then with good pads and try that first

Just change your fluid, but watch out for the rear nipples shearing.

Brake fluid absorbs water, so when you're giving it death your brakes get hot, the fluid will boil earlier than it should when it's new. Giving you a spongy pedal, braided hoses while you're at it will help.

Fixed
Fitted some drilled and grooved discs with mintex pads. And changed the fluid which was seriously filthy.

And i bet if you had just spent 40-50quid on a 2nd hand 2.0 set-up, they would have been better than what you have just bought.

Tbh i would rather have 2.0 brakes over V6. Too much pedal travel before anything happens.

Turbo calipers on the other hand are better than both the above.
