Also most rental places allow you to chose our car and pay the difference on pick up. So it might be worth booking a reasonable car and then choosing the exact one at the rental place.

Depending on the size of airport you will be limited by choice so if a specific car is required you are better requesting ahead

It only seems to be flights to the states thats a nightmare. I flew to Mexico 2 years ago on a direct flight which only took 10 hours.

I've been looking at the fly drive holidays and its seems like a great idea so far. I'll be picking and dropping the car off at the same airport so no extra fees plus i'm over 25 so again saving a bit.

Its the dates thats proving to be a bit of a pain in the ass. The only time off work i've got is the 14th to the 28th of July so i've got no other options but to get it sorted on that date.

It depends who you fly with, if you use an American airline they usually have a main base. I went to Vegas on Continental and stopped at Newark NY, went again on US Airways and stopped in Phildelphia to get the connection.

Sure one of those was from Glasgow, can get direct flights if you use someone like Virgin to Vegas etc and other US destinations.

Likes of Monarch will get you to a US airport them internal on an US flight.

Worth checking flights, where exactly you wanting to go and when?

only thing to be careful of is some airlines have security aspects on the websites - so the prices indicative - you may find they increase when you go to book them

Seems to apply mainly to budget airlines however but like people have said its a very good site that provides you with many options

Fly drive is where the flights and motor rental are part of a package eck. I'm not dead sure on the details but give 'fly drives to *destination*' and see if you get any better deals

Is it worth it though? Ive just paid £611 return from heathrow to miami with virgin in june. I could of get it for 490-500 but i would of had to fly from heathrow to paris, paris to JFk, then JFK to miami. There was a 4 hour wait at JFK too, with an 1.75 hour wait at Paris. Fuck that to save circ £100.

it was merely options mate - I didnt look into the exact costs - like you say for 100 notes I would fly direct without the hassle

Would it be cheaper to fly/drive/coach to another airport like Heathrow or Manchestet (for example) and then get a flight from there.

We've done a fly drive and it does work out cheaper sometimes, all depends on your circumstances tho.

Best off spending a couple hours on the airline websites as well as comparison ones and finding the cheapest
