also, check the telly setting. Sometimes it might be slightly too small and smart scan might help.

What settings have you adjusted on your laptop? I've got loads of resolutions on mine but it detected the tv model number and sorted it's self and that was only connected with a vga

It's solely down to your resolution settings. Ideally you'd set it at a HD resolution or somethin like that, but there's the question of what resolutions the card can handle. It might not potentially support a widescreen resolution.

Otherwise leave it as it is with it as a box in the middle then go on your tv settings and set it to 16:9 to stretch the desktop, although it'll look wank.

I've had this a few times, can never get it spot on on anything apart from my own TV

As said just adjust it to 1280x720 (720p) or 1920x1280 (1080p).

1336x720 or something around there usually works on most TVs too

Depends on your TV too, some TVs are gay when you're using the HDMI input and only accept certain resolutions etc. What happens if you connect your laptop through the VGA port to the TV?

Usually have like a 'Smart' button on the TV remote one for sound and one for dimensions. Get a photo of your tv remote.
