basically just had my headgasket done, during the process the head was skimmed. the mechanic that did it said he had some concerns that the compression ratio is now to high. the head has been skimmed before from looking at the service history. since getting it back theres been no issues and it runs perfectly now. can any one advise me on this?

If he was concerned, he should have checked the tolerances of the head and fitted a thicker head gasket.
It's no good him doing the job and then saying oh i'm a bit worried now.
As for advice, just drive it and if it's fine just forget about what he said and drive the car.

Raised compression would normally make the car feel more powerful but too much and you could get detonation.
You'd use more fuel, car wouldn't perform right and internal wear would increase.
If it doesn't run right, try it on high octane fuel.

Ok, havent seen a difference in fuel consumption and car feels pretty much the same as before. As said it runs spot on now. Thanks for the advice, after just having headgasket done, didnt want to be forking out for it again.

If it goes again quickly, the garage who did the work should sort it.

It appears its gone again, started in a cloud of smoke, 1.5 litres of oil gone, water in the oil. Spark plug 1 cover in black soot and oil only put it in friday. Looks like headgasket and piston rings. Rebuild time sooner than i thought

Pitstop motors, looking at it exhaust manifold gasket isnt new and instant gasket has been used on rocker cover so im gonna assume he only used a new headgasket and used the old head bolts.

I'd take it back to the garage who did the work and politely tell him what's happened.
He may be sound and give you a refund.

On the A548 heading out from Chester. I have heard that name before as well - and not for good reasons. Take it back.
If you are determined to do it yourself get the head checked at Hammonds in Deeside - 01244 830900
What engine is this by the way?

It is on sealand road, hes my bosses brother in law, i will be taking it back in the morning. Thanks for your help everyone.
Tbh kind of thinking whether this car is even viable anymore. Might just sell a few bits off then scrap it.
