The most unreliable car I've ever owned was my mk3 golf. Closely followed by my 12v corsa.
Most reliable was my vtr

Fiance's Getz is incredibly reliable. When i first took a look at it, no oil registered on the dipstick and not much came out when i changed the oil. It drove for at least 2000-3000kms like this. It still runs and turns over fine.

Chevy big block engines run themselves, just put oil in them when you feel like it and you're laughing.
You never hear stories of 40year old Renault engines running like new do you?

My most reliable were my Fiat Punto and my Ford Fiesta Zetec-s, also the seicento sporting I drove for a while was perfect too.

M3's and subaru's are the least reliable cars according to what I've read on here.

I drove my punto for about 20 miles in third gear at 80mph started pissing coolant all over the windscreen. But once I'd realised and changed to 5th it was fine again

"bulletproof"

They are unbreakable though. many Renault 4's are still running around Australia with the original 850cc engines.

a tvr can be reliable if you drive 10 miles a year.

Actually im not sure. My mates dad had his tuscan rebuilt and 16k due to being driven outside of the garage and back again every day (valve seals went)

i believe this too, everyone worries too much about cars breaking and costing loads of money, when in the real world its not the case.

I think the rumour/fear comes from the people who pay £100 to have brake pads changed and they tell everyone how expensive old cars are to run.

IMO, there's a difference between reliable and built to last, my escort has been reliable, but its falling to bits and rusting and the mileage only goes up to 99999miles, its like ford thought they wouldn't last past 100k

I would say the 1.4 8v's are quiet 'reliable' tbh. A bloke at work has one. Him and his missus had it from new and its a 'n reg'. Its the rustiest piece of shit you have ever seen for a car of its age (thats the sort of 'looking after' it has had). He asked me last winter what the problem could be with his heater not blowing warm then eventually stopped working. He has to wipe a patch on the screen just to see where to drive. Did this for around 5 months to which i asked have you checked your water (said it with a smile on my face) to which he says know. He rang me up later that night and said he poured a watering can full of water into it - it was bone dry :/ It has had an oil change in 5 years either. He wheels spings out of work for a laugh and often races you on the way home for shits and giggles. It just keeps going. I would like to see a modern vw diesel do that and keep going.

My Astra is a fucking weapon. Its been run with next to fuck all oil in it several times, for a fair few miles. Its done several trips with zero coolant. 132k and still going strong. In 5 years ownership ive had to fix the front brakes once after they binded, replace a little rubber cap after it came off the block causing a massive fuel leak and I've had to give the EGR valve a clean, thats it

Its not looked after in the slightest.

Jinxed it to fuck now
