Never transferred between cars, just assigned to a car when I got the plate, so all I had was plate certificate / receipt and the v5 for the car.
So probably would just need both v5's and maybe a slip to fill out for transfering a reg?
Will also need MOT certs aswell probably

Take bot cars logbook, MOT (if they have one) and tax disc (or just the number off it)

Anyone can change them, don't need I.D etc, hence how car garage's can go do it for you if your trading your car in but keeping plate.

I'm sure your dad has to sign something. Signature doesn't get checked though so could be anyone.

Could be a part of the v5? If so could sign it beforehand.

Needs someone who has transferred plates recently in here

I've done it a few times.

You will need signatures on the reg transfer form from both of you. As John said nothing will be signed on the V5's.

V5's will be sent off and new ones issued, they should give you the new keeper supplement. Tax disc and MOT's will be sorted out there and then.

http://www.direct.gov.uk/prod_consum_dg/groups/dg_digitalassets/@dg/@en/@motor/documents/digitalasset/dg_069390.pdf

Print that off and fill it out before you go, will save you time and you'll be able to make sure you have everything.
