you can buy tar remover from anywhere that stocks a range of car cleaning products, but its just a solvent, as is petrol. safe enough to use. wont damage your paint ( think about spills down the rear quater when filling up )

Use autoglym tar remover. Its better if you put it into a spray bottle aswell. Might be worth using a clay bar aswell to remove contamination afterwards to ensure the paints clean. I often use the clay bar for minor tar spots but it does make it dirty really quick

Only use this on my wheels cause their already needing a refurb, otherwise I wouldnt touch the stuff. Wouldnt catch me putting it near bodywork when there is specific products designed for the job

It works a treat and i've never seen it damage any bodywork i've used it on.
Sometimes there are better alternatives than "specific" products. take that bumper black spray, it's shite compared to a blow torch or heat gun in terms of how long it lasts.

tar gets soft when warm so if you warm the panel gently with a hairdryer it will greatly reduce the amount of effort needed to get it off with thhe tar remover and minimise risk of damaging the paint

A quick google confirms my suspicion and lots of threads on all different forums about how corrosive wonder wheels is (probably why it works so well) and also acidic

Tardis is amazing, better than intensive tar remover.
I've never had a problem with wonder wheels but I also wouldn't be using it on the car body.

Just use white spirits, i've put loads of this on paintwork and its fine, i even use it to wipe down paint/primer between coats etc
its basically the same as tardis but alot cheaper
