Went for my first ride last night, ended up just over 9 miles on the road. My legs we're burning! Think i was pedalling it too high of a gear? Anyone else have this problem? It took me just under 40 minutes to do the 9 miles which included an odd stop.

The route i taken had some long hills, around 2% i think, but the route to work had 4% hill

You're better to ride in a lower gear at a high cadence, save the big gears for the pros for now, I knackered my knees up doing that. 9miles in 40mins isn't half bad for a beginner. On a good day before I became fat I could do about 15 in 50mins. It doesn't get easier, you just go faster

hills are the worste. And as alun said. Whilste your starting out and your bodys getting used to it. Dont go into the highest gear. It doesnt seem natural but it will help you speed up a bit and it will save your legs from death haha, gears on the frame = horrible! Hate useing gears on the frame. Properly dangerous too
