Just sold my iPad 2 on eBay for £295. Within 30 minutes of it finishing I got this message from the winning bidder:
quote:
Hi it appears I have just won the bid on your IPAD 2, unfortunately I have been looking at Ipads recently with a few to buying one in the summer however my rather clever son who thought he could get this for me for mothers day has bid for your IPAD without my permission and won the bid. I am unfortunately not in a position currently to buy this item and I hope this will not cause you any issues. Please contact me to discuss further but I am extremely sorry for the inconvenience caused and will of course pay for your advertisement.
Again my apologies, Keith
Firstly, I'm pretty pissed off, this is the first time I've used eBay to sell something in AGES and despite all the horror stories I thought I would try it.
Secondly, can anyone spot the flaw in this message which suggests it might be bullshit?

I was too slow ^^
Probably bidded then saw some cheaper on ebay, made excuses to get out of paying. Typical ebayer.

Work out how much it costs to re-list, take the money off him, job done.

unlucky.
ive seen adverts that say buyer must get in contact before winning bid accepted, otherwise auction goes to previous high bidder

Just file a claim through the dispute resolution centre to get your fees credited, you don't need to get him to pay you anything.

Personally if I was offered a second chance I would automatically assume it was a bid up by a mate gone wrong and patch them

But why would that matter to you, unless you've made more than 1 bid? If you were the 2nd chance person, you get it for what you bid (or less)

Second chance always looks funny, particularly so soon after.

What ian said, it would matter because by buying it the seller wins at his cheating game

Get him to paypal you the money to pay for the listing fee. Then file a non buyer payment, once you've done that you can re-list the item free of charge. No real loss tbh.

I know there are various solutions, it just makes me so angry. People think they can just bid and then have a think about whether they actually want it.
I know I probably won't lose out on any fees etc but it's just an inconvenience.

I never have trouble with ebay until i'm selling something electrical and trendy, like a phone, ipod etc.
all these weird people come out of the woodwork and do weird things and have weird bids and weird stories.
Just ignore his pleas and send him and invoice, report him as non-payer etc,

Well I actually used my sister's account, she has over 700 feedback at 100%. She said she has never had a single problem and uses it all the time.
I used it once for the first time in ages and get screwed over.
But she mainly buys/sells small stuff under about £30, which could explain it.
