Seeing as I've heard nothing but bad things about Yodel and PayPal seem to specify you use Royal Mail or Parcel Force, do you get a tracking number for this service:

http://www.royalmail.com/delivery/business-delivery-options-uk/standard-parcels

It says you get a certificate of postage and I'm going to need the extra insurance, but will this keep PayPal happy by being able to "A tracking number as provided by Royal Mail Recorded Delivery and Parcel Force 24"?

Think CityLink are the next option in the price scale, or they might work out a little cheaper than Royal Mail, need to double check. They seem to have been reliable for me in the past.

I tend to use Parcel Force under 2kg and City Link (via Parcel Monkey) for over.

Standard Parcels won't give you the number though.

Good shout, I've been getting quotes using Parcel2Go and they seem to be heavily involved with Yodel. Everyone says Yodel are shit though and I don't want to risk getting a bad rep!

Does anyone know if using a different tracked courier invalidates your PayPal seller protection though? Not really sure if they're allowed to just specify you use Royal Mail or Parcel Force in the grand scheme of things, but I don't want someone to do a charge back and fuck me over.

As long as the item is tracked and sent to the address that was given with the PayPal payment you are covered. If a dispute is raised and you have a tracking number which shows the item was delivered and signed for then it pretty much covers you.

Cheers willay

I planned to use Collect+ for my free delivery offer, but they use Yodel. Decided to use City Link for my usual UK option.

Just make sure you can cover your arse for compensation if something was to happen, all couriers are different. For example when we send parcels by royal mail tracked 48hr its only covered up to the cost of a 1st class stamp x 100 which is like 46 quid? DPD cover our parcels up to £100, and parcel force do a standard compo of about £250, with options to go up to 2k. And thats the COST of the item, not what you are selling it for.

The likes of Royal Mail Special delivery is something like £500 standard I think.

Cheers for the info - the standard compo with City Link will cover my arse should it all go wrong. Was something I checked, don't want angry customers
