I am going to get the wheels on my BMW re done. There is no damage to the wheels, just the paint is lifting and cracking on the drivers front.
I can get them sprayed for mates rates (£50) so really cheap or I can spend £220 on getting them powder coated. Is powder coating £180 better than spraying? Pro's and cons?

Powdercoating is better IMO but I'd get them sprayed for that price. Aslong as its being done properly, tyres removed etc

If its a professional job for £50, then its a no brainer. If they are done properly, and lacquered well, then they can be almost as durable as powdercoated wheels. And you will probably have a better range of colours to choose from.

for 50 quid it wont be done properly, 50 quid wouldnt even buy you a fraction of the sundries to do it properly

The primer, paint and lacquer would cost more than £50 would it not?
I painted mine and wished I'd got them powder coated. The finish is better and won't chip as easy as paint.

I would get them powder coated if they are decent wheels and you plan to keep them for a while.
