Hi can anyone tell me what the differences are that restrict the power on the engines,
i have an X16XEL and would like to gain that extra 8bhp missing compared to the C16XE

X16XEL - 98bhp
X16XE - 104bhp
C16XE - 106bhp

Thanks

X16XEL has a different inlet manifold, and I think uses the X14XE head with smaller ports to restrict power.
The C16 also gains a bit of power by not having any of the ecotec shite on it.

SOME XEL's had a different inlet iirc, the weird shaped one.

also im pretty sure the XEL had a different ecu, a more economical one.

XEL heads are recommended by SBD when using their high spec X or C 16XE engine

my XEL with X16XE ecu, vx inlet, 4 branch, decat and de-restricted air box with k&n has my mates standard C 1.8 SRI just

Are there any problems swapping the ecu for one from the X16XE

I think vauxhall tried to detune xe16xel an the xe16xe with wierd intenal setup in the inlet manifold that's why if u put a powerbox inlet on them u can gain 15bhp

i broke my old engine so replaced it with an xel and just swapped the inlets according to everyone i spoke to this is the only difference between the xe and xel i am also led to believe that the xel is less powerful in terms of bhp but has more torque than the xe how true this is i don't know someone might be able to verify or correct me though

What about the throttle body on the XEL are they restricted? I know coolant passes through it to heat it up so was thinking of bypassing it

x16xe is 106bhp
c16xe is 109bhp

X16xel has a x14xe head and different inlet

so you need a x16xe head, for 6bhp not worth it

so why do SBD recommend the XEL head on their 200+bhp engine then if its just a x14xe head?
