That's exactly the same lazy ignorance which stuck them with PPI in the first place.
Exactly, these companies aren't 'fighting' anything, if you get knocked back by the bank, write to the ombudsman and they'll take over for free.

Not sure I can be bothered to go through the hassle of working out if I'm owed anything when, even if I am, it will probably be about £50
I know everyone says avoid the companies that do it for you as they take a big cut, does anyone know of any good ones? I'd like to find out if I'm owed anything but really can't be bothered to do it myself.

Your time is probably actually worth more than it would cost to get a company to do it.
Joe Bloggs in his council flat with nothing else to do all day and 5 credit cards should do it themselves though.

I claimed and got 8% interest back with mine so I actually worked out better off taking the PPI and claiming it back where as someone who refused it in the first place

I wouldn't mind doing it but I've had a few credit cards, a few store cards and a car loan over the last 5 years.
I can't even remember who some of them were with. Is there any way I can find that out?

ive not got the time to chase up banks, write letters, or copy drafts off the net. Tried it once and basically got told where to go and to contact ombudsman if in any doubt. Ive now got a company thats heavily advertised and registerd to fight my case and award me with 8% intrest as a compensation and they have one of the lowest fess around.

Sometimes people get money back and some mad compensation reward aswell. I doubt she lost 20k on a credit card.

ridiculous thing is, because of the grief with all these claims many lender will simply stop providing ppi to consumers by no longer offering that service. anyone who would have benefitted from knowingly taking ppi out and using it as intended would then no longer have a level of protection available to them which was previously there.
working in the motor trade most of our finance providers dont offer ppi anymore so basically a customer is screwed if they wanted to take it out

When I worked at Topman I HAD to have a store card to obtain my 25% staff discount. Was originally done by GE money which is now Santander. Phoned card services and they confirmed there was PPI on there.
Sending off the questionnaire to Santander this morning so will see what comes back.

That's interesting Fro as I had the same thing at Topshop. Hmmm, how do I go about finding that out?

Hardly screwing them over. It's widely reported that after the PPI claims are paid the banks are simply going to stop offering free accounts and apply large monthly charges to even the most basic of accounts. We will pay for it.
No different to large insurance rises due to false whiplash claims
Bingo. Exactly.
Same as the ones reclaiming bank charges they signed up to in the first place.
People won't take out credit cards with an annual fee, how are they going to enjoy paying for the privilige of a bank account?
Then of course free banking will be their right, as will free use of cash machines and free overdrafts. But how is the bank to cover the cost of providing this service? Add to it the increasing likelihood that retail and investments will be split and there's no option but to charge for banking.
We're all going to pay for it. Hooray
