Load of us being made redundant at my place, across 400 roles they're looking to loose 190.
Some people as part of the reorganisation have been 'matched' into roles as the available role going forward is an 80% or more match to what they're currently doing.
However I asked a question about this and this was the response:
"Will colleagues who are currently at risk of redundancy get preferential consideration for new roles ahead of colleagues who have been matched into roles?
No. All colleagues will be considered equally, regardless of their current status. In the event that a matched colleague secures one of the new roles, their current role would then be advertised for colleagues who remain at risk of redundancy under these proposals to apply for."
So basically people who have been guaranteed a job(matched into a like for like role) are allowed to apply for a promotion.
Is this legally above board?

they can't only offer it to a select few people. there are rules against that. any job that is going has to be advertised openly.

As part of the organisational design only those involved are able to apply for the available roles. The rest of the business don't get a look in. I just thought it was a bit unfair that those matched into roles with a safe job can apply for a promotion meaning less roles for those facing redundancy.

yeah i can understand your point. it's shit being made redundant but the company have to stick to the rules. they can get taken to tribunal if they don't.

You will find they will advertise the jobs but the people have already been picked to fill them. They will just do enough to cover their own arses. They don't care about the people losing the jobs in my experience. It's not what you know its who you know.

Co-op/Britannia Merger.
What's the plan for the Birchall sites? keeping them both going or cutting them?
I've heard of a fair few people being forced into moves to Manchester

As well as needing to work longer to retain the current pension scheme as far as I been told?

I used to work for Britannia but got out before the co op take over went through.
Then co op closed the Bristol office straight away which they said they wouldn't so I'm glad I got out.
Noticed Neville Richardson in the paper getting a fat payout the other day, along with his bum chumb Tim
Wonder if these new redundancies are anything to do with the co op bid for the Lloydstsb branches floundering ??

If its all above board then I haven't got a problem.
Can't say too much as you can pretty easily get pulled up for it but whats already been said is pretty much the long and short of it. I'm based in Leek but all remaining roles will be Manchester based, not ideal but more than happy to travel over not having a job.

I'm sure if u go to Manchester, you are entitled to disturbance pay for a 12 month minimum period.

Travel paid for 3 years. Just 3 hours on my day.
Also Manchester based staff get paid more, we won't be bought in line.

They will do that to avoid higher pay. Manchester pay I presume will be based on higher cost of living. Travel pay used as an interim payment. Decisions eh?

You also have to remember taht the job role becomes redundant and not the person. If that isn't the case then its not a legal redundency unless its a company restructuring.

Your best bet is to go and see a solicitor who specialises in employment law. You'd be amazed what a difference just dropping a name to H.R. of a good solicitor will make.
When my wife was on maternity they tried to shuffle he job about while she was off and her colleagues had been told not to let on. We went to see a guy just for advice. One rather awesome letter with his name on and it was as if nothing ever happened.
As mentioned companies don't give a funk about you and just do enough to cover their arse BUT if out of the 190 people, sorry, jobs being made redundant is someone with good legal back up is you. Well you get the idea. You just can't afford to be complacent or laid back and just roll with it you need to look out for yourself and more than that be seen to be doing so.
Good luck with it all.
