Whilst its on the car you don't need to pay any yearly fees afaik
You have to pay to take it off and a yearly fee if you don't put it on a car
Edit: read wrong thought you meant your private reg

Is the reg that's on the car a private number or the one that came with it from new???
If its not a private plate then it will be put on hold for free till you take your own plate back off and it will be reinstated back on the car.

While your private plate is on the original one will go back into the system, the likelyhood of it being taken is slim. so when you remove the private plate, the original one will be re-registered back to your car.

Thouggt you just got an age specific plate back, not the same one. A plate that's not on a car or retention can be bouggt can it not

It's very unlikely that a different plate will be put back on afterwards.

I've had mine and the wife's plates on and off a lot of cars now and every time the original plate was put back on apart from one. The golf had a different plate as the car had an Irish reg.

I've had it happen to me once when the orignal plate has been sold when my private place was on, had to explain to the new owner that all the service history was in a different reg

Ya except most of the time you get the original plate back. Also free and most of the time more convenient for the reason Andy outlines. Also means you don't need new plastics in the future.

yes normally the existing plate is put back into the DVLA system - but very unlikely it would ever be taken therefore if you remove your private plate chances are the originally will go back on
This happened on my TT anyway
Eitherway its no drama - its just that if you get a different plate you will need new plates made
