Me & Gaz are going down to London in July for his birthday only for the day...

What things would you recommend seeing? I've never been so don't have clue where places are

Typical tourist stuff - madame tussauds, london dungeons, london eye, sealife, thames cruise, london duck tour (yet to do this mind but you need to book up way in advanced), history/science/tate modern/tate britain/london motor museums.

There's also the markets like Borough Market (really really good for food and coffee)/Greenwhich Market/Camden Market that tend to be worth a look around.

Food-wise, get on GroupOn or Wowcher as you'll easily get some decent deal for claridges or similar and/or afternoon tea somewhere (like at the wolseley).

It all depends on what you fancy doing

go the ice bar - but you need to book - you only get 30 mins in there but good fun

Greenwich is excellent
Borough market is also very very good

if a Saturday go to Portbello market - excellent food and market stalls

Covent Garden is also good for a drink etc

Just spend all day on the Tube going to every single possible station.

Trying to plan it all in is our main problem as we have no idea where all this shit is haha, I have a feeling Sam's suggestion may become reality!

Try and keep it all localised rather than sitting on the tube all day. I'd do:

Hyde Park
Buckingham Palace
Tower of London
Borough Market
Dinner somewhere

That'll pretty much finish a day out

Spot on, madam tussauds is a rip off, and rubbish.

I recommend the Wolsey for lunch next to the ritz, but pricey but not too bad and excellent food, would recommend booking though, it's the cheaper, more relaxed, sister restaurant to the ivy.

Wolsey is good but generally isn't cheap (last time i was there the bill was over £400 for afternoon-tea) hence why i mentioned having a look on Groupon/Wowcher/Bookatable.com for deals.
However, if you're near London Bridge then the southbank isn't far and there a fair few reasonable places to eat like Giraffe, Eat etc etc.
