Windows shared core. Looks intersting if it's as described.

Apps that can be (almost) run on PC or mobile, shares loads of code, drivers.

Sounds interesting, as they mention in the article should make it easier for applications to be transitioned from fully fledged PC to Tablet to Phone, whether that'll lead to quality applications for slate or mobile is another question though.

My issue with this announcement is two things. There is no date when it'll be released. And no word on pricing apart from it'll be the same as some notebooks which vary by £200-£300. It's like a car manufacturer saying they're releasing a car capable of 125mpg but there is no release date or price.

For me, I would sell this crummy iPad tomorrow and get the Surface if it was available though.

Price is the biggest issue for them.

If they sell it without including the cost of an OS license they'll undercut all their hardware partners who will be priced out of the market. Then again they stand a chance of matching/beating Apples price/quality point.

I guess they themselves haven't decided which is worse.

Interesting to see how they have plugged it as having full multitasking when in fact its very very similar to the way its done in iOS i.e. certain things it allows to run in the background.

its a clever thing to do overall. Making it easier for the user to switch to a Windows phone because its so like their desktop etc.

Not sure why its such a surprise that there is going to be ease of portability between the phone/tablet/computer because they are running very similar interfaces. Its no different to Apple releasing a iOS GUI for the desktop (which they sort of do already have with the xCode stuff and saying "Oh look its easy to code for the Computer too". Switching to tablets yes nice and easy but how many touch interfaces are just that touch interfaces. AFAIK there is currently no decent application that does both mouse and touch well (I'm including the new Metro in there which I don't think is great mouse driven)

Very interesting to see they have done an Apple on the charging/sync port. Making it a patented connector so that they get royalties for every lead. I wonder if they will control it as well as Apple who come down on anyone producing a non-licensed MagSafe connector very quickly or will it just become so mass market they struggle to stop it

It's not just the same interface though, they share a load of the code, including the kernel.

Thats one bit I haven't quite got my head round.

Surely the kernel on the x86 is different to the ARM one or have they coded it to they provide common interfaces.

Not surprised that the Arm Tablet kernel is the same as the phones with them being arm based too but is it the same as the intel one?
