Need a bit of info/advice please gents.

My knee is finally getting back to working order after 8 long weeks and our lass has a been a diamond in looking after me and running me about etc so want to make it up to her a bit.

She's always fancied Manchester but has never been, and while i've been shopping and the odd visit for the football i'm not too clued up with regards to where is best to stop. Thinking anywhere within the city centre will be ok? Also, bars. She's into her cocktails so any recomendations on where to drink?

Having a quick look online and there seems to be a wide variety so after som first hand reviews. If there is anywhere that both the above in the same walkable area that would be favourite.

Oh, budget for the hotel is around £100ish and will be going on a Saturday night.

We stayed at a hostel called Ashton House

http://www.hostelworld.com/hosteldetails.php/Ashton-House-Hostel/Manchester/46557?source=googleadwordshostelsbyname&kid=800120&aid=2&gclid=CODZ15j86bACFRIjfAodtFq-eQ

Room for 4 was about £20 each.

Walking distance, 5 minutes from Printworks which has a few bars.

Looking at Trivago and Later Rooms Deansgate Hilton is looking about £150ish. Lowery can get for about £125ish.

Dont mind paying a little bit more but was just after opinions of any others that folk might have stayed in.

Radisson Edwardian is alright.

Head to the northern quarter for places to drink.

Second that, stopped there about a year ago, even standard rooms are nice and I'm pretty sure it was just under £100 at the time.

Hilton was very nice but it was a suite, assume normal rooms are still ok though. If you do book a better room you get access to executive lounge with the glass floor and priority entrance to Cloud 23 I think.

Lowry is nice, near the shops and walkable back from any of the bars really, ask for a river view if poss. Radisson is nice too, also close to everything but can be pricey for the nice rooms.

Bars - Alchemist is a good start, pricey though. Australasia is nice for a drink too, round the corner from alchemist but again tis rather pricey (both £8+ per cocktail). If you go to the Northern Quarter try Lammars after 10pm, really good atmosphere and a bit of cheese, but not too cheesey if that makes sense. Deansgate Locks can be ok, there's a bar called Sakura at the far end that's not often packed but has a decent cocktail menu, the other bars (Revolution mainly) are usually packed with douche bags after 9pm.

Some cocktails in alchemist are cheaper than that. Some are under £6. He could always go to sinclairs oyster bar first and get tanked up on cheap ale before taking the mrs for a cocktail.

Best hotels IMO are...in no order

Lowry
Great John Street
Hilton
Marriott Victoria & Albert
Malmaison

Malmaison is quite gothic/boudoir/sexy and a good place to take your missus, or someone else's missus.
