Just bought a new plate from the DVLA site and was wondering how long they usually take to deliver? Its just we pick up a new car on Friday and would love to get the plate on as a suprise for my wife.

Not too long, if I remember. You should get it through by Friday. Or, seeing as you have bought it, and the doucments are on the way, you could go and get two plates done, and just stick it on your car today, or tomorrow etc

I've had them in 2 days or upto a week. I like our local office aswell now, used to take hours to sort but it's just a 5 minute visit now and hassle free.

So when you get the stuff through, you can go to a DVLA office and get it all changed over there and then?
