This might sound like a thick question but there are a lot of people out there that run aftermarket management and take a laptop around with them to alter various settings etc...
Is this something that's widely done, il b running Omex 600 at some point and would like to know if it will benefit me once it had been set up to change things, If so what sort of things can be changed whilst it's all plugged in and isn't it a bit dangerous unless your 100% what your doing?
Is it something that would be fairly easy to get your head round?
Help would be appreciated

I run Omex 600 and have a "maptop" as long as you don't mess with the map (if you don't know what your doing) then you'll be fine but you can adjust a lot of things for example when the fans kick in or set a rpm limit etc generally people who carry them around use them to help fault find and look for det, and you can also do data logging (ecu dependent) on runs so you can play back what has just happened and check the map for faults in the cells and adjust accordingly

You will probably find you need a old type lap top, as my new one with windows 7 doesn't want to connect at all as the USB converters are toss, you need a laptop with the 9 pin connector (can't remember it's proper name) as they work perfect with windows xp

Mine is an old old old toshiba satellite with nIpple instead of mouse track pad uses com port. Some of the USB serial adapters don't work on newer laptops, can't find the ecu.

As long as its all setup properly there's no reason why a USB to serial converter woulsnt work.

No problems with mine using a USB to serial converter, you just need to change the settings on the hardware properties, can't remember which.
