Using a VM is a more and more common real world use of 8GB RAM.

I don't doubt that. Still doesn't make it "feel" any faster.

If you were doing something in a VM that warranted allocating it 4gb RAM, you should probably be running it natively.

So does my cheap Vertex Plus.

anything above a 200 read/write, in my experience, you have to measure to feel a difference. At 200 it's going to be pretty rapid.

I'd see how you get on with the SSD and the stock 4GB RAM. Although RAM is cheap these days (relatively), there's no point upgrading it if you don't need it for what you'd use the MBP for.

When I get an SSD for my MBP I'm going to upgrade to 8GB RAM at the same time, as I sometimes use Windows 7 in a VM on it and am using Adobe CS5.5 suite of apps fairly regularly.

I'll be using cad on windows, so the ram would probably be handy. I don't really need more space on the ssd than 2 os's and 20ish programmes will need. 56gb would probably be fine but they all seem slower than the 128gb

If I get 56 or 128, will it actually be 56/128 or is it the same as hdd's where you get less?
