Even finger prints show up on black.
Wash car, polish. Drive down road covered in pollen. Due to it being black this is highly noticeable.

I own a black car and it looks dirty a lot of the time but it also looks good in black when its clean.
I certainly wouldn't be doing a 3k worse deal just to avoid it, particularly as the other colour won't be much better for what you're talking about.

Black looks brilliant when it's polished up.
Cars get dirty no matter what colour they are.

Love my black car - but then again I am a clean freak so it suits me well the car always has to be washed weekly minimum and use Meguiars only products!

Black looks best by far when clean, but doesn't stay clean long. Slightly demoralizing when you spend a day polishing it and 2 or 3 days later it looks dirty, however unless you're OCD about the car looking clean all the time, it shouldn't bother you that much.
If I ever buy another brand new car, i'd have the front bumper, bonnet and roof wrapped in the same colour as the car to help prevent chips, tree sap marks and bird crap etching.

Had 2 black cars and they are a nightmare  Always say I won't have another one but they do look good when clean but then in winter they are never clean.
Then in summer like Jambo says you can spend ages cleaning it then a couple of hours later it's got a fine layer of dust on it and looks dirty again  So yeah it's just a constant battle
Grey on the other hand seems to hide the dirt really well.

I've had a few black cars before now. Try having an x5 in the winter when the salt is on the roads... hello car wash every day
Same with any car really, just shows up quicker on black & white. End of the day when its "that" dirty you wash it. No biggy.

I also find black cars hide the lines of the car - which can be good or bad depending on style etc

i find grey cars to look grubby even when clean . Plus resale will be easier on black than grey

I tend to find that while black can sometimes be annoying for looking dirty straight away, the way it looks when properly cleaned outweighs how quickly it looks dirty. Although I do tend to wash it weekly in the summer and I don't do a huge amount of miles, so it isn't often too bad. Getting it all waxed etc can help a lot too. I find that once I've gotten mine polished, glazed, sealed, and waxed, even when there's a bit of dirt on it the shine still shows through. Especially from a moderate distance, it might actually be covered in a fine layer of dust, but it doesn't look it.
