Been looking for a project with a couple of friend's and this came up on eBay for £300 so £100 a piece. We've already got the Rotax engine and have started building the frame to mount that.

Plans are to get the second engine (Briggs 12.5hp Lawnmower motor derestricted to 15hp) which provides the lift and sits in the forward well and then to get a 6 blade forward prop and 3/4 blade rear prop.

Its an ex F1 championship racing Hovercraft and has the dents and dings to prove it so we're repairing the upper hull and nose is being reinforced to protect it more and then vinyl cover the top deck

Remaining budget is £400 and that's it before getting it out to play with

do you plan on competing in hcgb?

you'll need a larger budget if you do. not many people running F1 in the uk atm because its so expensive. give us a shout if your ever stuck. currently working on an F2 craft

not really at this stage; we were just looking for a project one night and it's a little bit of a scrapheap challenge arrangement as one guy is a welding/engineering specialist; one runs a composites business and I'm in the marine industry so basically the dogsbody.

Been looking for something to play with for a while and who knows, we might be go further in the future as we have an R1 engine between us already but we'll need a better lift engine to compliment that.

none of us has huge amounts of experience with hovercrafts, we've all driven one but not much by any means

We are using a rotax 493 ( roughly 100hp ) but its a single fan craft with a splitter in the duct for lift. its going to be belt drive to keep the engine on the floor for lower center of gravity. yet to build the fan frame though.

there is an f1 that runs in hcgb with an R1 engine. they run a 12 blade hub with all 12 blades and still cant harness its full power. never had it to top speed either, just keeps accelerating.

check out my project

gone with a three blade set up for the rear and nine for the lift engine on the recommendation of the hovercraft specialist we're talking with. Have the option to add more to the main hub if we feel the need to.

All up cost so far:

Hovercraft = £300.00 off eBay
Rotors = £230.00 incl. p&p

Freebies:
Deck hatches
Fuel Tanks and fuel system
Rotax Engine
Deadman's switch and Lanyard
all composite materials (Kevlar, epoxy, etc.)

More work done on Wednesday

welding up the engine frame

example of some of the damage that's got to be repaired

One in the process of being repaired; bit of a pain in the arse as its purely Kevlar and no glass content

Materials: Kevlar, Epoxy and Beer

Underdeck

On Deck

and bit more of the Hovercraft now its been stripped down a bit

Deck was really flexible so we've restructured it with a coremat/kevlar/glass blend
