I want to start riding my MTB more, but the thing that really puts me off is the sore bum I get after anything more than short trips.

Do I need a better seat? Or do I need proper bike shorts/trousers?

In either case I'd like recommendations on what to get.

Are you wearing proper padded mtb shorts?

If not, get some.

Padded shorts and decent saddles help but you do have to get used to it to an extent too, you're arse toughens up in time

I had massive arse issues when I started, now its not noticeable even without padding, it just toughens up I think

Get a dropper seat, was using one yesterday - get the seat out of your way when your arse starts hurting

I know, but it was my first time out in 2 months so I got a sore arse pretty quickly. Just dropped it out of the way and didn't use it at all downhill.

Its a proper gadget though, definitely getting one for me!!

Sport's soccer do some good baggy padded cycling shorts. I have a couple of pairs but as said a good set will help as well.
