HI people,
The little orange engine managment light keeps coming on staying on...I used to be able to get rid of it by revving a few times, but today it stayed on for a 20mile journey...

Any ideas or suggestions as to what it could be ????

I spoke to one of my mates last night, and he seems to think it could be something to do with the lamba sensor on the exhaust manifold..

Now when I put my foot down, and the engine managment light is on, my car wont do above 50mph !!! Got no guts at all !!!! like you still got handbrake on (WHICH I HAVN'T !!)

He seems to think that sensor controls emmissions and if producing to much it kind of shuts the engine down a bit to reduce emissions..

Is he on par ??

unless u have put in a superchip or the like then it will configure itself. if u fucked up then evrytime your battery went flat or u disconnected it for some reason u would have to get the car sorted again. your supposed to reset it when u put an induction kit on etc..

Oh right....Ive put Pipercross Induction kit, Peco BB4 exhaust, and took front silencer off, as well as running 3inch pipes from manifold to back box...Cat is still on though...

So if I take battery of for couple of hours, then put it back on, the ECU should sort itself out, and dya think this could solve the engine management light problem, and stop the horrendous fuel eating ???

(if you aint guessed, Im new to modding cars !!)

it will splutter for a bit while it sorts itself out, but there is no guarantee that it will sort the problem.

If it wont go above 50mph the engine is in emergency mode. This happened to my 1.0 engine, and after about 2 weeks it eventually went boom and ended up running on 2 cylinders.

Emergency Mode....So why, or how has it gone into that...

The last time it felt this sluggish was when the cat had broke up inside the pipes and clogged it all up...But that was only bout 8 months ago, and the cat and all pipes were replaced...

So basically are you guys saying my engine is shagged...

Or is this emergency mode sumthing I can have sorted out...

We aint saying your engine is shagged. It goes into that mode when there is a problem that can damage the engine even more. Contact vauxhall.

Oh right...

Ill have to take it to Vauxhall then...

Just out of interest, any ideas what sort of problem it could be...

The engine was completely repaired (cams, cambelt, valves, compression, head gasket, oil seals, oil - the lot) when the cambelt went bout a year ago...Cost me £450 to get all that done, and couldn't afford to insure a bigger engine..(Had only been driving a year)...

SO I can't think what it could be...

Really appriciate all your replies though, has helped a lot...

Cheers

It could be the lambda, or on my engine it was this valve that open and closed, cant remember what they called it, charged me £90.

Thats what my mate thought it could be...The lambda sensor on the exhaust manifold...

I think Ill get a new one just to be safe...

Do you know if it matters if I get one from a bigger engined car or not...

Also, if I was to buy a performance Manifold, do you know if it would come with a new lambda sensor, or would my original one be OK ??
