Hi General Chat.
Hopefully Buying a 57 plate astra VXR tomorrow.
Is there any common faults to look out for?.
I have heared the 2nd.. 3rd gear syncros are weak and can whine.
Its only covered 55k so not massive miles.
Also its got the 19" wheels, are these saught after?... as i would hope to eBay them in favour of the 18" snowflakes.
Any advice/ input appreciated.

I had mine for about 3 months and in that time it had over £3k worth of REPAIRS done to it. The biggest spend was the gearbox at £1360 for a rebuilt one. The rest was on a new Intercooler, air con unit and all the bits and bobs that goes with it including the labour. I loved the car but its just to fragile. Mine was only 4 yrs old and on 32k miles when this all happened. I love them on the 19s as the 18s just look like there off a lower spec model.

On the other hand I've had mine 3 years and I've only had a seized bleed nipple, a rocker cover gasket and regular maintenance, although its getting some drop links shortly so it's not all horror story's

I have had my Astra vxr for a year, so far the faults have been a broken key (my fault) and a wheel weight falling off. my gearbox is fine, although had only been repaired just before i brought it.

Mine just started popping out of 4th gear one day and within 24hrs it wouldn't even go in. Some whine before they go. It's a bloody expensive fix. Mine was pretty fucked, the diff pin had sheared the clutch cylinder was leaking and 4th gear had shredded.

Yours was modified, not sure why you miss this out when posting about it breaking?
Could also have just been a shit example.

It was modified but so has every car I had and i've never had that kind of failures with such a newer car and low mileage. Having a modified car has nothing to do with the breakages that I mentioned anyways
As for the shit example comment it was in mint condition with it only just turning 4yrs old and low mileage. I don't have a habbit of buying complete dogs.

Dale's one is about a phase 3 power wise, and he hasn't had any trouble with it, apart from his Forge acutator playing up.
