Other half's K12 1.2 Nissan Micra has developed quite a noticeable shake when sat at idle - car seems to drive ok and there's no sign of it overheating or using excessive fluids.
Doesn't show any error codes via OBD reader and there's no lights on the dash.
She took it to her local garage (albeit a citroen specialist lol) who reckon it's possibly the timing chain. They've quoted her £1k, but also told her they're not entirely sure it's that so don't want to strip the engine down to discover it's not that. Therefore their advice is to drive it until it breaks down or the EML comes on
Anybody else got any ideas as to what this might be, whether they can confirm that it sounds like it could be the timing chain etc?
Cheers,
Rich

Sounds very possible but could also be the catalic converter collapsing inside the exhaust

Car has only done 38k btw
But it has had a sketchy past as it's had a shed load of paintwork - I wasn't involved in the purchase of it!

I believe the chain is a common problem on these, I'd be going to a Nissan garage to at last ask them if the symptoms sound like it could be a chain issue.

Tbh I know very little about Micra's Phil so don't know what engine it is. I assumed Nissan but may be wrong!
Andy - yeh I've told her to do that as there is actually a Nissan dealer just down the road from her. I just don't want her taking it there for repairs as I can't help thinking it'll be even more than the £1k already quoted (which in itself is 1/3 of the car's value )

Well if they're seen 100's of these cars before they might have more of an idea at least, doesn't mean you have to get it repaired there, you just need to be a bit more certain of what the fault is!
