But as a SELLER, if your making pence or a small loss. I see no gain in that?
Bit like saying I can sell 1000 iphone 5 contracts this month because I can do a crazy cheap deal and lose a few pence per deal. But hey atleast I will have great feedback?
Yes, but they will then make more money on other items.
So say you sell 1000 items at 1p loss, you have lost £10.
But in the process due to your feedback you are able to sell 100 items where your profit is £2, you have made £200. Minus your £10 loss, you are up £190.
Very basic but that kind of explains it.
Similar to your contracts, you could maybe sell contracts where you lost a bit of money but made that up via sales of other items whilst people buy contracts. Harder though.

Read up on 'loss leaders', it's a common concept across all major retailers.
Also, they won't be paying £1.29 for them more like sub 10p. Will no doubt be a chineese supplier (maybe even manufacturer) with a UK based warehouse that they ship everything out from.

I don't even think they're making a loss, there will only be pence in it but the money is in the volumes.
At that end of the market its all about price and its compete or sell nothing.
