I'm unsure, my hairdresser asked me if I can "chip" them, which im assuming is just jailbreaking? He really wants it doing, unsure what benefit it has.

Only the first two versions can be jailbroken, don't think a jailbreak is available for ATV3.

As Brett said, usually done to stick XMBC on it and the likes.

I bought an ATV3 to get 1080p, unknowing how much ATV2's went for second hand. I ended up making a tidy profit by getting a newer piece of hardware. Very unusual.

Can't believe the difference in performance and video quality between the two, it's pretty staggering.

the issue is devices not communicating.
for example, i cant use the itunes remote on my iphone to controll my laptop, despite them both being connected to the same router.
i think i dont actually have a proper network set up, my router simply distributes my internet connection to my registered connected devices

So just register your WAN mac address of your router to your account and let the internal network do its own thing. But tbf its probably written somewhere that your not allowed to do it etc

Absolute waste of time, the jailbreak is shite, quality of films are like copied DVDs and sky sports etc is just unwatchable. It's basically for tight arses who are happy to watch poor quality tv purely because its free.

cant do it, it recognises dhcp settings are turned on and kills the internet signal
